| The initial construction from the l7th century was razed by a hurricane in 1846 and it was reconstructed, swiftly and wholly, following a new-gothical style. The famous Fairs of San Rafael, described in Cirilo Villaverde’s novel Cecilia Valdés, were held here. Félix Varela and José Martí, the founders of our nation, were baptized in this temple. |
