World Tourism in Negative Territory
Monday, September 28, 2020

Madrid.- International tourism has experienced an interannual contraction of nearly 65 percent in the first six months of 2020.

According to the World Tourism Organization, this behavior responds to the restrictions applied globally to slow down the spread of Covid-19.

In the January-June 2020 period, 440 million international arrivals and 460 billion dollars in export earnings from tourism were lost.

The Asia-Pacific region was the most affected by the current situation, with a 72-percent drop in tourists in the first half of this year.

Declines of 66 percent were also reported in Europe, as well as 57 percent in Africa and the Middle East and 55 percent in the Americas.
