Decorative Mural Exhibited in Matanzas Province
Monday, September 28, 2020

Havana.- The original patterns of the decorative mural located in the western city of Matanzas, in the province of the same name, were exposed under seven layers of paint.

The work was found in the current Provincial Historical Archive of Matanzas, which was the residence of romantic poet José Jacinto Milanés (1814-1863).

The intervention of archeology students determined the existence of two different motifs, but both from the first half of the 19th century, according to experts.

The highest pictorial line of the discovery, which is 1.80 meters in relation to the floor and has a width of 25 centimeters, belongs to the first years of the 19th century (1801-1808).

It is a continuous upper border made up of wavy lines made by freehand that surround floral motifs, later covered with yellow-orange paint.
