Cuba Boosts Domestic Coffee Production
Monday, September 14, 2020

Havana.- The Cuban agricultural sector is granting incentives to boost the domestic coffee production, with a view to satisfying the demand from the internal market and promoting exports.

In this context, the increase in the price of the coffee harvested in correspondence with its variety was ordered, together with the use of technologies that increase yields and benefit the crop.

Coffee is harvested in nine Cuban provinces mainly, where Santiago de Cuba, Granma Guantanamo and Holguín share 90 percent of the production.

In central Cuba, seven percent of coffee is obtained and the remaining three percent remains for the territories of Artemisa and Pinar del Río.

In recent years, the so-called plain coffee program has been developed, with crops in Matanzas, Mayabeque, Ciego de Avila, Camagüey, Las Tunas and Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth).
