Medical Supplies for Health Care in Cuba
Monday, August 3, 2020

Havana.- The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) donated medical supplies for maternal health care and family planning services in various Cuban centers.

The contribution benefited the most important maternal hospitals in Cuba, in an effort linked to actions to reduce infant mortality.

The donation consists of 40 kits with hormonal contraceptives, 200 hygiene kits for pregnant women and 60 kits to treat labor complications.

The latter contain reusable equipment to ensure safe deliveries, caesarean sections, and other obstetric interventions, while contraceptive supplies include pills, injections and emergency contraception.

Last year, Cuba reported 109,707 births, and an infant mortality rate of 5.0 deaths per every 1,000 live births.
