|
|
Monday, August 3, 2020
Havana.- On July 27, the world of sports commemorates the 27th anniversary of the world record of 2.45 meters set by Cuban high jumper Javier Sotomayor outdoors.
The record was broken in the Spanish city of Salamanca, where he also established the first of his six universal marks in this sport.
It is worth mentioning that this record is still in the books, and he is the only Cuban record holder in the world in athletics.
The record, one of the oldest in athletics, was threatened by Qatari high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim who jumped 2.43 meters, but everything remained at that level.
Sotomayor, in addition to being the world record holder outdoors and indoors, was an Olympic champion and five times world champion, in addition to winning the Pan-American and Central American and Caribbean games.
In addition to this, he was the winner of the Prince of Asturias Prize in Sports.
