Cuban Filmmaker on Oscar Awards Jury |

Havana.- Cuban casting director Libia Batista became the first professional of her specialty in Latin America to be selected to join the Oscar Awards jury.
Batista, who has worked for Cuban cinema for four decades, will join a jury of 819 new members of the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Her beginnings with the Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematographic Industries (ICAIC) were in the 1980s as production secretary. She began as casting director with the French series Indigo Blue.
In this role, she has worked not only for cinema, but also in series, video clips and other audiovisuals.
According to Batista, she found her name in a publication, along with that of two other Cubans (both living abroad), actress Ana de Armas and musician Arturo Sandoval.
