Children's Health in Western Cuba
Monday, July 27, 2020

Havana.- The health system in western Pinar del Río province shows a favorable balance in relation to childcare.

From January to date, the territory reported a mortality rate of 3.9 deaths per 1,000 births, which shows the positive evolution of the Mother and Child Program (PAMI).

In the same period last year, that indicator was at 5.0, and now in Sandino, Viñales, Minas de Matahambre, La Palma, San Luis, Consolación del Sur and Mantua, no deaths have been reported of children under one year of age.

The low birth weight index is also reduced since it went from 4.8 to 4.4 due to the implementation of protocols to prevent prematurity, delayed intrauterine growth, hypertension and other conditions.

Also, fertility is encouraged in the province and in this regard, the care program for infertile couples in all 11 municipalities has achieved 125 clinical pregnancies to date.
