Aquaculture in Eastern Cuba
Monday, July 27, 2020

Havana.- The Estación de Cultivos de Especies Acuícolas de Las Tunas, in eastern Cuba, has designed strategies to promote artificial fish farming.

With an area of 10 hectares of water mirrors, the firm ventures into the development of catfish and fries of cyprinids, such as Chinese carps and tench, mainly intended for reservoirs.

It also raises tilapias and freshwater lobsters, which will be the varieties they will prepare for export, with an operational structure of 98 ponds, 58 made of concrete and 40 earthen ponds.

In addition to this, recently colosome larvae were introduced for fattening and their extension in the promotion of family aquaculture.

In the case of freshwater lobsters, the objective is to reach a volume of nearly 1,000 kilograms in 2021, with a view to its commercialization abroad.
