Cuba to Increase Covid-19 Test Capacity
Monday, July 6, 2020

Havana.- The Cuban health system will increase the daily processing capacity to diagnose Covid-19 cases up to 6,000 samples.

Cuba's laboratories are working to reach that number of tests, with a view to responding to the possible requirements of the country in the face of the pandemic.

Currently, these studies are carried out in six laboratories throughout the country.

They are at the Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute; in Havana, Villa Clara and Santiago de Cuba, as well as at the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital; the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center and Center for Civil Defense Research.

Overall, up to 3,000 samples can be analyzed in those facilities every day.

The number of diagnoses is made according to the number of suspected cases, confirmed contacts, people who come from abroad and those who present respiratory symptoms, as well as population studies.
