Cuban Weightlifters to Compete in Virtual Contest

Havana.- Cuban weightlifters will participate in a virtual event, as part of the event ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, scheduled for 2021.

Seven Cuban weightlifters with options to qualify for the Tokyo Games will take part in the 1st Pan-American Online Weight Cup.

Thus, the Cuban delegation includes Arley Calderón and Otto Oñate (61 kg), Olfides Sáez (89 kg), Juan Columbié (109 kg), Ludia Montero (49 kg), Marina Rodríguez (64 kg) and Melissa Hurtado (76 kg).

The event will take place on July 18 and 19 with the participation of athletes from the Americas and other countries around the world, and using the rules of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), but with some adjustments.

Participants will all be over 15 years old and will be subject to anti-doping tests during or after the contest, while each movement will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.
