Cuban Cultural Center Celebrates 61st Anniversary |

Havana.- The Havana-based Casa de las Américas cultural institution, is celebrating its 61st anniversary in its current venue of the former Continental House of Culture, with a late Art Deco style.
Casa de las Américas has welcomed creators such as Víctor Jara, Rodolfo Walsh, Gabriel García Márquez, Julio Cortázar, Aquiles Nazoa, Francisco Manrique Cabrera and Mario Benedetti, as well as Juan Marinello, Alejo Carpentier, José Lezama Lima, Mirta Aguirre, Onelio Jorge Cardoso, Fayad Jamís, Luis Rogelio Nogueras, Darcy Ribeiro, Manuel Galich, Rigoberta Menchú and Elena Poniatowska.
The cultural center promotes, investigates, sponsors, rewards and publishes the work of creators and intellectuals from the continent.
The institution, which fosters exchanges with similar centers and people from all over the world, organizes the literary and musicology awards that bear its name, as well as the Protest Song.
Casa de las Américas magazine also stands out for its role in displaying the work of established and young creators, writers and artists.
