San Pedro de la Roca Attracts Visitors to Cuba
Monday, July 6, 2020

Havana.- The Castillo del Morro San Pedro de la Roca Museum, in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, resumed operations after beginning the post-Covid-19 recovery phase.

The emblematic institution organized activities to remember the naval battle in Santiago de Cuba, on July 3, 1898, in front of the fortress, a jewel of military architecture in America.

The program included a conference on the events at the time and two rooms related to that history were visited, one of them with archaeological remains of the Spanish Admiral Pascual Cervera's fleet such as projectiles and military attributes.

The second one has paintings that recreate the development and outcome of the unequal combat between the navies of the United States and Spain, an exhibition enriched with the work The Atlantic that Unites Us, which King Felipe VI gave to the museum.

On the Spanish ships, the Infanta María Teresa went to the front, the Furor and Pluto were the first to sink, while the Admiral Oquendo and the Vizcaya ran aground.
