Cuban Weightlifters Set Eyes on Olympic Event
Monday, June 1, 2020

Havana.- Cuban weightlifters focus on two events scheduled for October in Colombia, with a view to scoring points in their Olympic classification.

If they attend, the Cuban representatives would complete the six events necessary to aspire to a slot in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

In Cali, the South American, Ibero-American and the open championships will be held at the same time, with a silver category on the lists for the Japanese event.

Likewise, in Manizales, the Pan-American Youth Championship will be held with a gold category on the IWF ladder.

Sports officials pointed out that the Cuban athletes who would take part in each event have already been chosen.

Cuba's last Olympic medal in weightlifting was won in London-2012, thanks to Iván Cambar, who was the bronze medalist in the 77-kg category.
