Cuba Prioritizes Care of the Elderly
Monday, April 6, 2020

Havana.- Social workers are providing personalized care to senior citizens throughout the country, with a view to preventing them from going out unnecessarily.

The elderly who live alone are generally included in the Family Care System (SAF) to facilitate food for those who are favored with this help and who do not have relatives.

In eastern Camagüey province, some 6,000 people benefit from this program that includes the provision of breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Of the total number of beneficiaries, 1,457 receive home services and 500 who suffer from physical disabilities have family members who go to the 106 premises where SAF food is prepared.

Another action carried out by social workers in the community is to visit all elderly people who live alone to guide them about hygiene and sanitation measures.
