NH Hotels Skips US Lawsuit
Monday, March 30, 2020

Madrid.- The NH Hotels group finally avoided a legal complaint filed by a family from the United States against the chain, for the management of several hotels in Cuba.

The lawsuit was filed at the time by the family of John S. Shepard, a Florida resident, who was accusing the Spanish firm under Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.

That particular section allows US nationals to sue individuals and companies, both Cuban and from third countries, who are allegedly trafficking with US property.

At the beginning of the year, a US judge decided to withdraw the lawsuit against Spanish hotel chain Meliá, also accused under the Helms-Burton Act.

Likewise, another lawsuit based on extraterritorial legislation against MSC Cruises S.A., an Italian-Swiss cruise company, was eventually withdrawn in US courts.
