Tourist Industry Suffers Significant Losses to Coronavirus
Monday, March 30, 2020

London.- The global tourism industry has reported the loss of at least one million jobs a day, as a consequence of the impact generated by the new Coronavirus.

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), layoffs in the sector are increasing along with the closures declared by countries to combat the virus.

WTTC mentioned the closure of hotels, suspension of flights, cessation of cruise lines and global travel bans.

Faced with this, the council is working with governments in more than 75 countries, assessing the best solutions they are implementing, with a view to reducing social impact.

In general, 50 million jobs are at risk worldwide, in a sector that generates 10,4 percent of the global Gross Domestic Product.
