Cuban Rhythms for Tourists
Monday, March 30, 2020

Havana.- Most foreign tourists arriving in Cuba will eventually fall for its wonderful music and dance.

Nowadays, the island country is house to some 70 musical genres, ranging from Salsa to Son, Danzon to Cha cha, Mambo and Timba.

Cuban music at its core stands mostly as a mixture of Hispanic and African influences, much as the local population itself.

For its dissemination, the country relies on record companies such as EGREM, RTV Comercial and Estudios Abdala, which treasure the island's musical heritage.

Most sought after still is Bolero, which became popular around 1840 and is currently much heard in all Latin American countries.
