Outstanding Cuban Filmmaker Juan Padrón Dies

Havana.- Cuban filmmaker and cartoonist Juan Padrón, who fathered the animated character Elpidio Valdés, died after several days of health complications.

National Humor Prize-2004 and National Film Prize-2008, he was a jury at a number of festivals around the world, where he would eventually be a participating artist himself .

He was also a professor at the University of the Arts and gave lectures and courses on animation in cities in Europe and Latin America.

In 1985 Padrón began collaborating with Argentine colleague Quino (Joaquín Lavado), creator of the popular character of Mafalda. Out of such relationship were born the animated series Quinoscopes.

Shortly before his passing he was a senior advisor at the Animation Studies of the Ccultuuban Film Institute (ICAIC).
