Cuba Asseses Beach Protection
Monday, March 23, 2020

Havana.- Cuban environmental services experts have developed a project aimed at preserving the beaches for tourist use in the eastern province of Holguín.

The program is based on the topographic leveling method, which allows determining the behavior of variables such as dunes, the coastline, the area of solar exposure and the submerged slope.

All these actions allow the creation of a database, which in turn helps develop effective protection plans for these ecosystems.

The evaluation was extended to the beaches of Guardalavaca, Don Lino, Pesquero, Yuraguanal, Esmeralda, Carmona, Baracutey and Caimán, which are part of the tourist areas in the province.

The project also revealed a decrease in trees, the volume of sand on the coast and the retreat of the coastline.
