Cuba Prioritizes Elderly Care
Monday, March 23, 2020

Havana.- As the Cuban health system tries to cope with the Covid-19 Coronavirus, it places its priorities on permanently tending to the elderly.

According to experts, 20.8 percent of the Cuban population is 60 years or older, which makes them most vulnerable to the disease.

Therefore, an active investigation is carried out to detect respiratory symptoms, especially in those older adults who live alone, accounting for 15 percent of Cuba’s inhabitants.

The island has 293 grandparents' houses, which are run by social workers who have been trained to apply preventive measures on daily basis.

In addition, students of the Elderly Circles are currently studying COVID-19, in order develop consciousness among the elderly.
