Cuba’s First Bioelectric Plant Joins National Grid |
|
|
Monday, March 23, 2020
Havana.- The first bioelectric plant built in Cuba has just become synchronized with the National Electroenergy System (SEN) and is becoming gradually stable.
The plant´s Boiler One began delivering 27 megawatts to the SEN through the 110,000 volt power line, joining the generating plant and the monitoring substation adjacent to the Santana community.
Insiders have identified the project’s most relevant fact so far in the generation of electricity from burning marabu tree biomass.
With the start-up of the second boiler, the plant should be reaching a nominal power of 60 megawatts, which will be periodically evaluated by specialists from Cuba and China.
The plant will work from June to November with marabu tree biomass and from December to May using the plant's bagasse, which will save the country about 100,000 barrels of oil a year.
