Cuban Triathlete Seeks a Place at the Olympics

Havana.- Cuban Leslie Amat, a prominent woman triathathlete in her country, won her ticket to Tokyo 2020 Olympics after finishing fifth at Mexico’s La Paz Pan American Cup.

Amat registered 2:12:59 hours in a test of 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running.

She made the swimming leg in 00:21:20 hours, the cycling route in 1:12:20 and the pedestrian track in 00:38:02, following Mexican winners Lizeth Rueda, (2:08: 33), Rosa María Tapia (2:10:15) and Cecilia Sayuri Ramírez (2:12:13).

The Mexican and Cuban competitors were joined by colleagues from South Korea and Romania.

Amat is currently ranked at the 117th place on the Olympic ladder and was the only one of the three contenders from the Americas to be vying for a ticket to Tokyo.
