Villa Clara Province Extols Restored Heritage
Monday, March 23, 2020

Havana.- Authorities in Cuba’s central province of Villa Clara have praised the restoration work done on Santa Clara Boulevard, the city’s only pedestrian street.

The project, which took from 2017 to 2019 to complete, was awarded the Restoration Prize by the Provincial Center for Cultural Heritage.

Following the pattern designed at Marta Abreu University’s Construction School, the works went from adding new furniture and lights, to renewing garbage baskets and posters.

Also part of the project were significant facades and buildings, such as the Hurtado de Mendoza School, the Europa Cafeteria, the Governor's House and the Plaza de Las Arcadas Cultural Complex.

The Santa Clara Boulevard stretches from former Santa Elena Street – currently Independencia - between Maceo and Juan Bruno Zayas Streets is a key work in the architectural local heritage.
