Cuba Plans Higher Tobacco Exports
Monday, February 24, 2020

Havana.- The TABACUBA business group exported 269.8 million dollar's worth of tobacco products in 2019 and is now planning to raise the figure for 2020.

According to executives, the current goal is to reach 280 million 850 thousand 600 dollars, in addition to maintaining the quality of the Cuban cigar.

During the 2018-2019 season, the planting program was exceeded, but the harvest just reached 97.3 percent and collection, 83 percent.

Among the reasons for goal failures are the losses of seedlings due to rain, inadequacies in contracting labor and lack of products to control blue mold.

TABACUBA also produces food, yielding more than 562 thousand tons of tubers, grains, fruit and vegetables for the domestic market.
