Cuban Tries Alternative Fuels in Cement Industry
Monday, February 24, 2020

Havana.- The “Cementos Cienfuegos” factory, in central Cuba, is promoting the use of alternative fuels in its production line.

The use of energy sources such as used tires and oil sludge from the territory's refinery can replace imported pet coke coal by five percent.

At present, the factory burns about 150 tires a day, following the adaptation of the infrastructure to burn this waste material.

In the case of oil sludge, only about 30 thousand liters have been used, due to the high cost of transportation.

Cement and clinker ovens, capable of handling some 1,600 degrees Celsius of temperature and retain products, stand as ideal incinerators for any type of waste.
