Cuba Boosts Artificial Shrimp Farming
Monday, February 17, 2020

Havana.- The CULTISUR company, in the province of Camagüey, encourages artificial shrimp farming with a view to satisfying domestic and foreign demand.

In 2020, the goal is to reach 1,885 tons of the crustacean, in addition to exporting 80 percent of it.

In 2019 88 percent of the catch met the parameters for the sale abroad, where 1,283 tons were sold.

There is also an investment process in progress, including building roads, repairing dividing dikes and converting more than 30 hectares of the fattening area to intensive farming.

The company is also working to increase the average weight of the crustacean and decrease the amount of feed used to harvest a ton of the product.
