Camagüey Exports Charcoal
Monday, February 10, 2020

Havana.- The Cuban eastern province of Camagüey grossed some 10 million dollars in 2019, by selling nearly 30,000 tons of charcoal abroad.

A total of 11 of the 16 units currently exporting charcoal in that province fulfilled their goals, while the other five did not.

One ton of that charcoal, which is obtained from sickle bush (marabú tree charcoal) ranges between 300 and 400 dollars, hence its importance as currency source for the Cuban economy.

Major importers of Cuban charcoal worldwide are China, Korea, Japan, the US, France, Germany, Spain and Italy, which use it for industrial production, at restaurants, cafeterias and households.
