Cuba Fosters Elvers Exports
Monday, February 10, 2020

Havana.- Cuba’s eastern province of Las Tunas has been exporting its first batches of elvers, which are on high demand in European and Asian markets.

During the last quarter of 2019 the island sold 51 kg of young elvers, grossing nearly 32,000 euros.

This fish fetches 6,260 dollars per kg at the world market, in account of its high nutritional value and the requirements for its marketing.

Experts claim that elvers should be kept alive at the time of exporting them , at a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius.

On average, each elver weighs one gram, and measures 6 to 8 cm long. It is rich in vitamins A, B-3 y B-12, Calcium, Iron, Zinc and Potassium.
