Havana.- Cuba’s eastern province of Holguín will be hosting the First International Jazz Festival and Contest next April.
Sponsored by Casa de Ibero-América and the Provincial Cultural Section, the event is aimed at boosting creativity and interpretation of Jazz by local musicians from 16 to 35 years of age.
Accordingly, the fest’s program will feature jam sessions, lectures and audiovisual screenings.
Both vocalists and instrumentalists gathering in small ensembles – in solo or combined performances – will be accepted in the contest, in which they are required to play a classical piece of Jazz music, one of their own choices or one by a Cuban composer.
