Cuban Baseball Players Featured in Japanese Leagues
Monday, January 27, 2020

Havana.- The Japanese Professional League has signed some Cuban players, thus acknowledging the high quality of the island’s sports movement.

Accordingly, pitcher Yariel Rodríguez has joined the Chunichi Dragons, which had previously chosen his fellow countrymen Raidel Martínez and catcher Ariel Martínez.

Alfredo Despaigne and Yurisbel Gracial, the best player of the previous season, have filled the ranks of the Softbank Hawks, current champions, for a two-year period.

Omar Linares, a leading representative of the Chunichi Dragons, said Rodríguez’s powerful pitching, combined with his youth and dedication to baseball, will be a shot in the arm for his Japanese team.

Joining the new lineup for Mexico’s Saraperos de Saltillo will be pitchers Lázaro Blanco and Juan Carlos Viera.
