Cuba Protects Iconic Beach
Monday, January 20, 2020

Havana.- Cuban authorities have declared “Las Dunas de Playa Pilar” (Pilar Beach) as Protected Area of Local Significance.

Considered the highest in the Caribbean Basin and one of the oldest in the region, this beach stands as a paradise-like spot, much sought by both foreign and national visitors.

Located in the northern tip of Ciego de Avila, Pilar Beach is currently pending projects that will develop ecologically sustainable tourist facilities, aimed at helping protect its highly fragile ecosystem.

Thanks to it, many natural wonders Pilar has become one of the best beaches in Cuba and the Caribbean, according to surveys by international tourist operators.

Pilar boasts many endemic and exotic species of scientific value. Protection is also needed for its uncanny marine bottoms, which are surrounded by coral formations.
