Cuban Animation Celebrates Six Decades of Life |
|
|
Monday, January 20, 2020
Havana.- The Animation Studios of the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) have just celebrated six decades of life.
A few years after their inception, the Animations Studios witnessed the advent of such cartoon icons as Tulio Raggi, Paco Prats, Juan Padrón and Noel Lima, who made history in Cuba with their original characters and screen layouts.
Animados ICAIC, as the studios came eventually to be known, cultivated a large following locally, by releasing popular series for the silver screen, such as Padrón’s Elpidio Valdés, a 19 century Cuban fighter for independence from Spanish domination.
To add luster to the celebration, the studios are releasing a videogame devoted to Captain Plin, a bereted green cat who fights crook rats, as well as the series Pequebots in DVD format, plus Fernanda and the Great Musical Treasure Collection for Kids.
Likewise, related videos will be screening on Cuban National Television and children wards at hospitals, while movie theaters will host documentaries on national cartoonists.
