Health Tourism Growing in the Caribbean |

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has been carving a niche market of its own in health tourism, grossing nearly 300 million dollars en 2019.
The figure only encompasses the average expenses of foreign patients during treatment and recovery.
In 2017 some 47,000 patients were serviced, followed by 69,550 others in 2018 and nearly 80,000 last year.
Thus, Dominican specialized health institutions have been gaining a foothold amid regional experienced and reputed competitors such as Cuba, Costa Rica, México, Colombia, Brazil and Panama.
To this aim, the Dominican Republic established a strategy to attract potential customers through alliances with tourist agencies, as well as banks and financial entities.
