Cuba Guarantees Health Services to Deaf and Blind
Monday, January 13, 2020

Havana.- The Cuban health system guarantees medical care for the deaf and blind, who are currently benefitting from cochlear implants.

A nationwide special program has allowed 51 such implants, mainly on children and teenagers.

Cuba offers this costly surgery free of charge, including the rehabilitation process and the equipment maintenance.

The island country is tending now to 883 deaf and blind patients nationwide, who are mostly concentrated in eastern Granma province.

The local Ministry of Health has the necessary methodology for the follow- up of all cases and relies on the National Neurosciences Center for the production of high quality prosthesis.
