Havana.- The world-renowned Cuban coastal resort of Varadero hosted the 6th edition of the specialized forum on the environmental management of beaches and coastal ecosystems.
Experts from Colombia, Mexico, Spain and Brazil, as well as Cuba, attended the meeting, where they shared their experiences in the conservation of Varadero.
Topics included methodologies for scientific research and integrated diagnosis in coastal areas, land use planning, tourism development and strategies for sustainable development in sun and beach tourist destinations.
Ecosystem restoration, coastal engineering, environmental education, community participation, strategies and technologies to prevent and control pollution were also on the agenda of the meeting.
A Trade Fair was also held to promote products and services from international organizations, companies, tourism agencies and protected areas.
