Havana.- Authorities from the Cuba's healthcare sector presented the prizes corresponding to the 44th annual contest, in recognition of the contributions of local medical professionals.
The grand prize went to El Libro de Cirugia, by Doctors in Sciences Romulo Soler Vaillant and Orestes Noel Mederos Curbelo, as the main authors.
The book consists of six volumes containing valuable contributions to research and medical teaching, with 30 parts and 258 chapters elaborated by 24 medical specialties and professionals from 31 institutions.
Ricardo González, a renowned Cuban psychiatrist, won three awards in the Books category, with "Tacticas para Vencer las Drogas Blandas y Duras. Consejo de un Viejo Adictologo"; "Marihuana, Posibles Beneficios vs Tragedias Cotidianas"; and "Etica para Proveedores y Usuarios de Salud".
In this edition, 561 works were submitted from all over the country, representing 23 more than in the previous year, and 193 in the national instance.
