Monday, December 9, 2019

Havana.- The Cuban healthcare system implements the cochlear implant program, which has benefited for more than 500 patients to date.

According to specialists, this mechanism extends its attention to hearing-impaired children, especially the deaf and blind, and allows them to have a better quality of life.

The process consists of a candidate selection stage, the implant, and rehabilitation and support of the device.

The alternative involves a multidisciplinary group made up of audiologists, speech therapists, psychologists, ophthalmologists and geneticists, among other experts.

The cochlear implant consists of the insertion of a device that converts sounds into electrical signals, which are processed and perceived by patients through this technique.
