Space for jazz in Cuban Culture
Monday, December 9, 2019

Havana.- The 35th edition of the International Jazz Plaza Festival will bring together outstanding musicians from eight countries, in addition to Cuban artists.

According to organizers, the Festival, scheduled for January 2020, will be attended by representatives from Italy, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Puerto Rico, Spain, Cuba and Chile.

The competition will pay tribute important figures in Cuban music, such as the founder of the Los Van Van orchestra, Juan Formell, trumpeter Felix Chapotin and the Irakere orchestra.

This time, the 15th International Jazz Plaza Colloquium will be held and will dedicate its theoretical sessions to the 105th birthday of Cuban percussionist Chano Pozo and the 60th anniversary of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).

For the occasion, the documentary Mambo 35 will be screened. The material brought together renowned jazz exponents from Cuba such as Maestro Enrique Pla, Bobby Carcases, Alejandro Falcon, Michel Herrera, Zule Guerra and Alain Perez, among others.
