National Ballet of Cuba in New Phase
Monday, December 9, 2019

Havana.- The National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), with a wide trajectory worldwide, is in a new creative phase after the death of prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso.

According to experts, the company is amid a process of readjustment of its artistic policy and future projections in terms of repertoire, promotion, extension, and national and international presence.

Likewise, the rescue of shows from the passive repertoire, the invitation of foreign creators and the incursion into new forms of movement reflect the new times.

The group performed at the Alicia Alonso Grand Theater of Havana where it presented classic choreographies and two premieres by foreign choreographers, in addition to staging El Poema del Fuego (The Poem of Fire) by Alberto Mendez, from Cuba.

Choreographers Ricardo Amarante (Brazil) and Alexei Ratmansky (Russia) were also invited to show a new way of interpreting ballet.
