Puerto Rico Faces Damages in Cruise Ship Tourism
Monday, December 2, 2019

San Juan.- Puerto Rico's tourism sector may face the possibility of millions-dollar losses due to the cancellation of dozens of cruise ship stopovers.

The problem affects the ships that will use San Juan as their port of call and stopover during the 2020-2021 season, and the damage is estimated at some 100 million dollars.

Experts said that the crisis is related to the privatization of the docks in San Juan.

Cruise companies would have offered money to renovate the docks if necessary, in exchange for preferential use.

The future concession for cruise ship docks in San Juan Bay will allow repairing, upgrading and enlarging the cruise terminals, as well as expanding operations.
