Cuba Finishes Ninth at Osaka Judo Grand Slam

Havana.- Cuba finished in the ninth place by countries at the Osaka Judo Grand Slam, in Japan, where Idalis Ortiz won the silver medal in the +78- kilogram division, where she lost the gold-medal fight to Akira Sone, from Japan, who won by Ippon in the Golden Rule at 5:53 minutes of the fight.

Ortiz had previously won by Ippon against China's Fanfan Liang, the Netherlands' Tessie Savelkouls and Brazil's Beatriz Souza, the latter in the semi-finals.

Cuba finished ninth in an event that Japan dominated with 11 titles, eight silver medals and 15 third places, followed by France (1-0-1), Russia (1-0-1) and Georgia (1-0-0).

Some 485 judokas from 87 countries participated in the Osaka Grand Slam searching for points for the world and Olympic rankings in 14 divisions (men and women).
