Alternative Energy for Health in Cuba
Monday, November 4, 2019

Havana.- The use of alternative energy gains ground in Cuba's healthcare system, with a view to guaranteeing the operation of medical centers.

In that regard, the Juan Bruno Zayas Hospital, in Santiago de Cuba, uses renewable energy provided by a photovoltaic park on the building's roof.

By capturing solar energy for approximately five hours a day, the photovoltaic park guarantees the total consumption of 14 wards and the laundry, thus benefiting some 700 patients.

The 384-solar-panel network has a power of 96 kilowatts and occupies an area of 600 square meters on the roofs of the cistern and the laundry.

The solar park is part of the Environmental Sustainability Project in Eastern Cuba, which is being carried out in conjunction with CUBASOLAR and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
