Cuban Chess Players Dominate Copa Independencia

Havana.- The Cuban trebejistas dominated the actions at Copa Independencia, , held in the capital of Mexico.

Aramis Alvarez was the winner with seven points in nine rounds, thanks to five wins and four draws that added 17 units to his Elo score.

Cuba also had good results by Omar Almeida and Alexey Fernández, who finished third and fourth, with 6.5 points each.

Another Cuban player, Karen Espinosa, with four points and number 39 in the ranking, was the best woman in a contest in which players from Colombia, Argentina, Peru and Sweden participated, in addition to those from Cuban and Mexico.

Meanwhile, Cuban champion Oleiny Ramírez was second with seven points in the event for women only.
