Sculptural Mural in Eastern Cuba
Monday, September 9, 2019

Havana.- The eastern Cuban province of Las Tunas will have a 50-meter-long sculptural mural that recreates the main historic events on the territory.

The artwork is located on the façade of El Mambí agricultural market and constitutes the conclusion of a contest among artists from the province who responded to the call.

The mural tours the main historic events in its different stages, from the aborigines to the present, including the first slave rebellion on the island.

As a curious element, the creators have been modeling the works for about a year, using the technique of sculpting in mud and smelting in cement.

Las Tunas has about 180 sculptures on an urban scale and more than 300 small-scale, created by renowned artists such as Rita Longa, Jose Antonio Diaz Pelaez and Sergio Martinez, among others.
