Fernando Ortiz's Work Is Cultural Heritage
Monday, July 22, 2019

Havana.- The work by the Cuban sage Fernando Ortiz was declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation, as part of actions to preserve, promote and disseminate cultural and historic values.

The decision was announced on the occasion of the 138th birthday of the author of Contrapunteo Cubano del Tabaco y el Azucar.

The poet Miguel Barnet, president of the Fernando Ortiz Foundation, described the intellectual's contributions as the most extraordinary in the field of Cuban Social Sciences throughout the 20th century.

Linked to Ortiz's legacy are the Jose Marti National Library, the Literature and Linguistics Institute, the House of Africa and the National Museum of Music.

Experts highlighted the efforts made to preserve and catalogue tens of thousands of manuscripts and typed sheets, as well as other important documents, which are part of Fernando Ortiz's legacy.
