International Award to Outstanding Cuban Intellectual
Monday, May 13, 2019

Havana.- The Cuban intellectual Eusebio Leal, the historian of the City of Havana, was named a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

This decision responds to the mandate granted to that honorary association since its foundation in 1780.

The mandate considers cultivating the arts and sciences that can increase the interest, honor, dignity and happiness of free, independent and virtuous people.

In its first years, this Academy was made up of personalities such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton.

Membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences seeks to represent thinkers and innovators from around the world who are notable for their contributions in very different professions and branches of knowledge

Leal has been distinguished with the national awards of History, Social Sciences and Humanities, as well as ten Honoris Causa awards from several universities around the world.
