Vegetal Heritage Preserved in Central Cuba

Havana.- The Botanical Gardens of Cienfuegos, in central Cuba, holds plants that over 100 years old, despite negative climatic effects.

According to experts, each of the plants in the gardens has a card containing data like the year of introduction of the species and its origin.

In addition, there is a ficus collection made up of 54 species, most of which are exotic plants with an average age of 60-70 years, but they can live up to 100 years.

The Botanical Gardens of Cienfuegos is considered one of the best-preserved such facilities in the world and holds about 710 genera and more than 1,600 species of plants from all five continents.

Regularly, research works are carried out to preserve the endangered plants, and local experts collaborate with scientists from all over the world.
