Havana.- The health system in Camagüey is using a hydrotherapeutic method in children in order to complement the health care of handicapped children.
In this sense, a swimming pool which had not functioned for 13 years was reopened to benefit 167 children who are also treated at the equine-therapy center located in the city of Camagüey.
The hydrotherapy seeks to transfer thermal and mechanical energies into the body thus favoring the physical and psychological development of the children.
According to specialists, the method benefits children suffering from static lesions of the central nervous system by increasing their capacities and skills to make movements in the water.
Meanwhile, hydrotherapy helps develop sociability, communication and self-esteem, among other benefits, in children suffering from autism and Down syndrome.
