Santo Domingo.- The tourist sector in the Dominican Republic will benefit from the services of a modern cruise terminal in Puerto Plata.

The U.S. cruise company Carnival Corporation has agreed to build and run the facility, whose construction will cost nearly 65 million dollars.

According to authorities, the project is expected to generate about 30 million dollars during the first year of operations and will have a huge economic impact.

The terminal is expected to handle some 250,000 travelers during the first year of operations.

The facility will have shops, markets, a parking lot, aquatic environment, amenities and public areas, and will be able to receive two ships at a time.
